Construction and General Description:

Convergence 1 has been designed in consultation with naval architechts, scientists and logistics personnel, and the design takes into account the practical experience of other operators working within the high latitudes. These inputs will ensure that this safe and fast passage maker is a versatile scientific platform for Southern Ocean and Antarctic service.Yacht Convergence under construction at Electrona Tasmania

Convergence 1 has been constructed specifically for Southern Ocean, Antarctic and subantarctic science, expedition and film work. Convergence 1 has a modular interior design that can be configured to meet the needs of the charterer. This modular design will allow for the fitting of anything from laboratories, cold rooms and computer terminals through to a gymnasium if required.

Convergence 1 is being fitted with state of the art equipment that has been sourced world wide where not available in Australia. Her construction is from 5083 Aluminium plate with 6000 series scantlings. Hull thickness 12mm, topsides 10mm, decks and cabin 6mm. She has 5 watertight compartments for added safety along with multiple bilge systems, fire suppression systems and heating systems.

The combination of flare in the topsides and a chine above the designed waterline will allow her to ride up in the ice if beset.

Versatility will be the key to the success of Convergenc 1. Her shoal draft (with the keel up) and her very low air draft (with mast folded down) will allow for access to areas inaccessible to a conventional yacht. Convergence has even been designed to park on the beach for unloading of equipment or just for a picnic. Convergence 1 is being built under survey for international voyages with accommodation for 12 persons, cargo and equipment.

Convergence 1 is being built to not only be practical but also to be a comfortable home, with 4 seperate cabins with varying bunk configerations, ducted heating, leather recliners, spa and indoor-outdoor entertainment systems.
